Unit 10: My Passions Objectives: The student will be able to: • examine the lives of passionate people that they know • consider whether or not their family and friends would believe them to be passionate about something in life • ascertain what they are passionate about • uncover the motive behind each of their passions • determine the passion of Paul in the Bible • decide whether or not they are passionate about Christ • establish how they can serve in this world by incorporating their passions Procedures: 1) Bell Work-“Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it.” “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” - Hebbel “If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.” – T. Alan Armstrong “Passion is the genesis of genius.” – Anthony Robbins 2) As listed above for bell work, have students choose (or you choose) a specific quote to respond to in their journal. What does the quote mean to them? How can they apply the quote to their life? How do they define passion? 3) Thoughts to Consider: • Passions are those things that you are willing to work hard for; it is when you have a strong desire and/or enthusiasm for something • Living a passionate life means that you are willing to face some of your fears-ask students why facing their fears would be a part of living out their passions. • You come to discover your passions by being in a right relationship with Christ. Ask students to discuss why being in a right relationship with Christ is vital to discovering their passions. 4) Have students discuss people they know or know about, that they would consider to be passionate. Here are some things for them to consider: • What is this person passionate about? • How do you know that this person is passionate about this one thing? • What do you respect about this person? 5) Have students comment on this question-what would others say that you are passionate about? Why? 6) Once students have answered the above question, have them journal about what they are passionate about and have them explain why they are passionate about those things. 7) Next, have students look up and discuss how the following Scripture relates to passion: Philippians 1:21-“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” 8) Study on Paul-Paul was passionate about Jesus Christ and everything that had to do with Christ. His life did not revolve around what he wanted or even , how he felt, but instead, it revolved around Christ and sharing his passion for Christ with those that he came into contact with.
