We don’t want to get over our loss. We don’t want to put our departed loved one on some dingy shelf in the back of the garage between old sprinkler parts, and worn-out water hoses where we will never see them. That is not honoring their memory. We don’t want to be in grief recovery. There are so many “grief” books that speak of recovering from one’s grief. Our real goal is to reinstate our loved ones back into our lives in a more rich and wholesome way. We integrate their story into the fabric of ours. We, in a sense, bring them back to life again. My goal was to lead you through these stories with a new focus and hope. In every single story, we have seen the “Great Comforter” come alongside those who were dying. He has also strengthened the feeble arms of those weakened by grief’s hold. If every day was a “magic ride” experience, we would become spiritually orphaned. We would not understand the pauses, barriers, and pitfalls that are the pillars that support our spiritual house.

About the Book
The journey of grief is not one that we would have chosen for ourselves. No one understands the true pain of your sorrow but you. Sometimes we feel alone in our grief. Does anyone understand? Is there any way to put a positive spin on our terrible loss? Does God truly understand what we are going through?
God has not abandoned you, even though at times it feels that way. Where is God in our pain?
God is never more real than right now. You will read stories of others who have faced death’s door and attained victory through Jesus Christ. You will discover a God who not only cares but intervenes at the intersection of belief and hope.
The Holy Spirit will join you on this journey. Allow him to minister to you as you walk through the pages of this book and witness God’s power to heal!
About the Author
For the last thirty-six years, D. L. Starkey has served at a senior pastor, social worker, hospice chaplain, and bereavement coordinator. He has held various leadership positions in different churches, as well as work for a number of hospices. He holds D Min and M Min degrees, as well as degrees in social work, and radio/television broadcasting.
He is strongly dedicated to the call of Jesus on his life. His desire is to reach those who are hurting and troubled, whether it be due to a physical loss or due to losses caused by one’s own sinfulness, strongly believing that the love and grace of Christ can heal the most wounded of hearts.
He and his wife, Patty, live in Southern California and have been blessed with five children. Their passion is to serve the Lord Jesus in “spirit and in truth,” realizing, of course, that all men are fallible. Their hearts’ desire is to witness the next coming of the Lord Jesus, if possible, in their lifetime.
