About the Book

Hilda Bees Special Home is a story in which a bee faces  many challenges. . Although Hilda Bee attends school and always tries her very best, she just cant seem to do things like the rest. Although encouragement and support will always be there for Hilda Bee, her limitations must be realized. It will take the special love and incredible insight of her teacher to help her students realize that they must accept Hilda Bee just as she is. The story itself uses the time–tested, prevailing technique of rhythm and rhyme, a technique that is widely used by both parents and educators alike to help foster phonological awareness.

About the Author

Gerard Cervantes graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas Pan American and is the proud recipient of the 2007 Rotary International Elementary “Teacher of Excellence Award.” Throughout his tenure in education, Gerard has conducted numerous trainings, and  has served as chief coordinator of numerous school-wide events. He feels his greatest contributions, however, are his service as a curriculum writer and as a classroom instructor, directly impacting children’s lives.

Currently, Gerard is employed by the Brownsville Independent School District and is a fine arts teacher at the elementary level. Gerard is a native of Brownsville, Texas, where he continues to live. As a young boy he always expressed a high interest in creative writing and remembers vividly the day his beloved father came home with a portable typewriter. Luckily his parents encouraged and nurtured that interest. Equally important in his circle of influence was his grandmother Florence Simo-Cortez,. a simple, gentle woman whose soft touch, kind words of wisdom, and gentle smile are always with him.

Illustrator John Aguilar is a graduate of Gladys Porter High School. He attended Texas A&M Kingsville where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Fine Arts as well as a Master’s Degree. He was the recipient of the Ben P. Bailey Scholarship award while at A&M Kingsville. During his tenure at A&M he was active in both the fine arts and theater departments where he was able to apply his art and music skills in many of the theater productions.

Currently John is employed by the Brownsville Independent School District and is a visual arts teacher at the middle school level. In his spare time John enjoys spending time with his family as well as his other passion, drums and percussion. When time allows he performs with other musicians and is also an amateur fossil hunter and stargazer.
