We are very happy to worship the Great and Good LORD. God is Great, God is Good. There is no One in this universe to be likened with Him and His greatness. It was only Him who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient, Eternal, and Immutable. However, this same LORD has given Jesus Christto save men from sin. Indeed, He is our GOOD Lord. The Bible tells us that He has created the first man, Adam and Eve in His image that they might reflect His love, long suffering, mercy, faithfulness, justice, and a lot more of His image spectrum, yet men fell into sin because of breaking what He commanded them to do. They broke His commandment.
Our LORD GOD continues to love men.Hehas givenHis Law directly to His people even wrote them down in the2 (two) tablets of stone by His own finger. Moses taught this Law to the children of Israel and perpetuated it in His five books known as The Book of the Law or TORAH. Through Moses, His servant, the LORD, has taught His people of Israel about the plan of redemption of men through the Lamb of God with TABERNACLE and all the activities in it as the audio visual aids including the slain of animal sacrifice, the ministry of the priests, and the celebration of holidays and fasting day according to the instruction that the LORD gave to Moses.
Eventually Jesus Christ came and died on the cross. Before His death, Jesushas proclaimed good news to His own people but theJewish religious leadersopposed what He was teaching. Jesus taught God’s Commandments but Hewas opposed by the Scribes who taught TRADITION or the so called CUSTOMS and TRADITIONS,their interpretation on the LAW that they taught orally from generation to generation. The LAW of LOVE that is the essence of the LAW, has been taught by Jesus Christ in His sermons and dialogues with the Scribes.
Jesus emphasized to the Scribes and the Pharisees that He came not to abolish what He has spoken, what He has commanded. He said: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets, I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” It is true, Jesus came to fulfill all which have been written about Him in the “Law” that is the writings of Moses, and the “Prophets” that is the writings of the prophets of the LORD, the other name of the Word of the LORD which formed what is now known as the Old Testament. It means that He came to confirm, to justify, to enhance what He has said.
The LAW of LOVE that Jesus taught is not something new or something that is not in existence before. The LAW of LOVE is the LAW or the TORAH itself. Every Jew repeated this LAW of LOVE in their profession of faith (shema), and Jesus was only quoting it to remind them what actually has been taught to them. Notice the next verses:
“Jesus said to him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
“Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.”
In His prayer, the prayer we know as the Lord’s prayer, Jesus expressed the desire of His heart for the will of the Lord to be done on earth as in Heaven, and for them who believe in Him tobe willing to forgive the one who is guilty to them as He has forgiven them.
Jesus Christ has already ascended to Heaven. Before ascending to Heaven He promised to send another Helper who will help and be with His people. Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” This is the promise of Jesus about the coming of the HOLY SPIRIT.
The Holy Spirit comes to lead everyone who has faith in Jesus. The Word of the LORD said, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them.”
The Holy Spirit will write the Law of the Lord in the hearts of those who have faith in Jesus Christ. This is no other than the same Lawthat He wrote on the 2 (two) tablets of stone, the same Law that was violated by the Scribes who dragged the woman who committed adultery to Jesus to be judged by Him, but later became ashamed and go away when Jesus bowed down and supposedly wrote their sins while He was writing on the ground. The Holy Spirit will lead every believer not to violate the Word of the LORD as expressed in the Ten Commandments and make them wlling to obey what He has commanded in the LAW of LOVE.
We should remember, the Holy Spirit will not whisper or “speak” any teaching that is contrary to what He has revealed to the writers of the Bible. Should there be a conflict, thenit is not a whisperingof the Spirit of the LORD. Make the Bible as the criterion to test all theclaimed truth.
Let us continue to believe in Jesus who has said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
He is the Straight Path! Follow Him! Be one in His Word! United we are strong, Divided we fall! The LORD bless you.
