Discovering the Unique Joy God Has for You

Those longings are his Grace Gifts to us. There is no better joy than the discovery of what will fulfill those desires that he has placed in our hearts. It is not unlike the first time that one discovers the joy of sex. That fulfillment on a physical plane is comparable to the fulfillment of those spiritual longings that can only be met through his grace, and in the proper relationship with him.
Recently, I was asked to perform a marriage ceremony in the lovely state of Tennessee. I had been reflecting on C. S. Lewis’ picture of the relationship of the Holy Spirit to the Father and the Son. I’m not sure that his portrait is totally orthodox, but it was essentially that the Spirit represents the relationship between the Father and the Son. But just as the relationship is spiritual, it is also a divine entity, capable of personality and activity and everything pertaining to his role in the Godhead. I realized that the church is a similar entity. It is the relationship between us and the Son. The church is not Christ, and it is not us. It exists between us and is as real and personal as the Holy Spirit himself. (I think the same is true between any bride and groom by the way, and the mystery is very great, “but I am speaking of Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:31.) In the context of the marriage relationship, the desires of the flesh are fulfilled. That is a gift from a man to a woman and from a woman to a man. In the context of our relationship with God, we receive and give back to him the Grace Gifts.

About the Book
Too many of us are burdened with the question, “What am I supposed to be doing?” We’ve tried doing what Jesus did (WWJD), but we’ve found walking on water and feeding the multitudes a little beyond our capabilities. So we’ve settled for watching other Christians and imitating them. Or worse, we have taken the first job anyone offered us and stayed at it in frustration for years and years. There’s a better answer. You are supposed to be doing what God has equipped you to do. Knowing the gifts you have received lets you know what God expects you to do.
About the Author
For more than twenty-five years, Dan Knight has been presenting “Grace Gifts” to churches around the United States and in two foreign countries. He has been in ministry for nearly forty years, including eleven years in Ecuador, evangelizing and planting churches. After that, he served in Los Angeles, California.
Dan now lives and works in Kansas, with his wife of forty years, Vickie. They have three children and six grandchildren. At present, he is completing a Masters of Divinity degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
