Pathway of Prayer Walking

In the Beginning

Every time I bow my head or my knees, and every time I open my hands in surrender or raise my arms in praise, I begin a journey along the pathway of prayer. When I whisper the name of Jesus or cry out for Abba I begin a journey along the pathway of prayer. It matters not if I kneel quietly at the altar, or sit snuggled in my prayer chair at home, when I begin a journey along the pathway of prayer.

I may begin a journey on foot in a busy city or along a deserted dirt road in the country, but when I begin in Jesus' name I am beginning a journey along the pathway of prayer. My physical position or geographical location does not matter; what matters is the condition of my heart. Am I surrendered, am I willing and humble?

Have I laid down my agenda and asked the Lord for His will? Am I prepared to pray requests and give praise rather than tell Him how I want Him to answer my requests, needs and desires?

Am I willing to talk with the Lord about my prayer needs and then leave them with Him to answer in the way that He knows is best? Am I humble enough to trust Him with the perfect answer rather than to tell Him what to do about my request? Am I surrendered, willing and humble enough to let Him tell me how and what to pray?

Oh Lord, cleanse my heart and mind. Use Your Spirit to reveal my thoughts, motives, wants and desires. Help me to recognize and turn from my pride. Help me to accept with praise and thanksgiving Your will, not mine. Remind me that You alone know my heart.

Jeremiah 17:9-10: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind. Even to give every man according to his ways."
