Storm at Sea

A thunderous clap erupts
as a slice of light illuminates
the tiny fishing vessel.
Fierce winds toss
the boat to and fro
amidst the intense rhythm
of prevailing waves.
Swirling crests crash
over planks drenching
the huddled inhabitants.
The inky darkness swallows

bright stars are replaced by
grey clouds infiltrating the sky.
Terrified, Jesus’ disciples,
certain of impending death,
scream as they plead for help.
Amidst the pandemonium,
Jesus slumbers soundly.
Sleep deprived and
fatigued, He has finally
been lulled asleep by
the hypnotizing motion
of the lilting waves.
Jarred awake by the
commotion, His reaction
confuses His companions.
Calmly Jesus raises His
hands and the turbulent
sea is immediately at rest.
In the hushed stillness, the
enthralled spectators
discover that inner peace
originates with one source,
Christ our Sovereign King.

familiar surroundings to the unknown.
Jesus perused the coastline, noting the

fisherman dutifully fulfilling their trade.
Conversing frequently with them concerning
matters of faith, Jesus knew that if He
would only ask, the anglers would follow him.
