Planting the Seed
I still love to ride my bicycle, maybe not as fast or as far as I used to, but it is time alone with my Heavenly Father. I enjoy all He has created, listening to His earthly orchestra of nature and seeing His beauty and magnificence in everything. “I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.” Psalm 9:1.
In the year 1975, driving illegally with my Grandmother in her mustard color Dodge Dart, I learned about Servanthood. At age 17 and her at 69, between the two of us, we only had our learner permits, albeit we laughed and concluded two learners permits were just as good as one drivers license, along with the fact that my Grandmother looked pretty good driving that car.
Together, we traveled the back roads of Pendleton, New York through the country as we delivered her fresh- baked bread and barley soup. This not only opened my eyes, it touched my heart and soul. For the first time in my life, I saw such a cosmic spectrum of neediness; in the people less fortunate than my Grandmother with her “humble” soup and bread of “humility” that was shared. I watched her love of the Lord as she gently showed me how to become the hands and feet of Jesus, demonstrating His unconditional love for all of us.
I spent many summers at my Grandmother’s house, packing up my suitcase on the last day of school, hopping on my 10 speed bike, never truly knowing then, the opportunities that God would have for me to do His work. I do remember one very hot day in July when I asked the Lord to refresh my soul, forgive my sins, and let me learn to love Him more. Looking back, I can see now that I have a lot of growing up to do –nevertheless- I was on the path.
Martha, my Grandmother, was a woman of faith; she loved the Lord, was devoted to her family and church, a prayer warrior, an artist, a lover of life, friend to all, and an inspiration to many. “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people.” Hebrews 6:10

God Moves Me...
Our Heavenly Father is everywhere and in every situation of our lives. He places people on our paths or in their journey for His purpose and His plan. He does not waver or hold grudges as He quietly waits for us to return to Him so that He can immerse us in unearthly love, kindness, and compassion that only He can provide.
The gift of servanthood that God has blessed me with aligns with my faith and life values. He does not want his children to miss out on the opportunity to become His Disciples in this world today. Never pass up the chance to help someone regardless of who they are or what their circumstances may be. Always provide comfort and compassion to one another as we know and understand this is the will of our Father.
Being a nurse, God has placed me in many situations and events that would specifically point to His mercy for others. He puts me where He needs me to do His will, and then He moves me… I can also witness to the fact that He provides for me the strength, the wisdom, and the endurance to always persevere in doing what is right and honorable to Him and others. His love, clemency, and gentleness are sufficient for me.
May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Ps115:15

Nicholette Tixier MSN,RN is compassionate about helping others, whether she is in the clinical setting teaching nursing students or as a first responder in aiding others. She is an active volunteer in her church and community. Her life-long passion is to continue to inspire and encourage others to engage in acts of servanthood, kindness and goodwill. She advises people to volunteer if they cannot find fulfillment in their jobs. In 2015 after completing her Masters in Nursing Leadership and Management she received the Inaugural Nurse Inspiration Award from the Healthcare organization where she was employed.
In 2014, she received an Honorable Mention award from the American Red Cross “Acts of Courage” in regard to ordinary individuals performing extraordinary acts in times of emergencies.
In 2012 and 2017 she received the Volunteer Of the Year award for service and dedication to the Medina County Medical Reserve Corps.
