About the Author

Dr. Shelia Truelove holds a B.S. in Psychology from University of Alabama at Birmingham (1998), M.S. in Management from Faulkner University (2002) and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University (2012). She earned an Alabama Professional Educators Teaching Certificate in Collaborative Teaching and taught in the field of Special Education over 14 years. Dr. Truelove has been honored as Teacher of the Year for Birmingham City Schools (2010) for her work in Special Education, nominated for a Disney Teacher of the Year award and served as an Adjunct Professor at Concordia University College of Education (2014). Dr. Truelove has extensive research experience and application of best practices in community- based and educational programs. Her dissertation entitled “An Evaluation of Family Involvement in a Title I Urban Middle School,” allowed her to research the psychological dynamics of parental involvement. Additionally, Dr. Truelove has served on various district and school-level curriculum design and alignment committees that enhanced the special education program.
Being a philanthropist at heart, Dr. Truelove has a passion for motivating others to become their very best in personal and professional endeavors. She served as a mentor for young African-American girls in a program she established called “I Can Win.” She presently works as a Program Mentor with Western Governor’s University (WGU) in the Teacher’s College. Dr. Truelove guides, mentors, and advises students obtaining Bachelor Degree’s in Special Education.
Dr. Truelove acknowledges her most notable accomplishment is that of being a Mother. Daniel, 10, and twins Ashlyn and Brooklyn, 9, are the driving force in her life. She prays specifically and consistently for them to achieve all that God holds for them. She believes that parents should invest in their children and treat them as the greatest commodity. She and her children are from Tuscaloosa, Alabama but currently reside in Dothan, Alabama.
