The Donkey’s Christmas Story

Scene One – Nazareth

Mary and Joseph are packing for their trip to Bethlehem.

Narrator: I guess you might think I would start out tonight with “Once upon a time in a far away land”, and while that is true, that is not the beginning of this story. This story opens with “the donkey” at Mary and Joseph’s home. He’s tied up, eating his hay, minding his own business. Never in his wildest dreams would he ever believe this day would be the beginning of history being changed forever—prophecy would be fulfilled. The King of Kings would be born, and by believing in Jesus and living for Him, man would not only live forever, but he would have life more abundantly. OK – back to the donkey. Let’s call him Jed, short for Jedadiah, -- for the sake of the story. Like I said, Jed was minding his own business, thinking only of himself. He had thought it a little strange that his hay allotment had increased. Jed was glad that no one liked to eat donkey – fish – yes, donkey – no. This particular morning, Jed was awakened early.

Donkey: “Weary is me. Can’t they let a sleeping donkey lie?”

Narrator: Then Jed saw the hay.

Donkey: “OK! Food!”

Narrator: Back in the house, Jed also noticed that bags were being packed, and everyone seemed to be scurrying around – kind of in a hurry. He noticed Mary, checking her list twice, as not to leave anything. She was going to have a baby soon, so she was moving kind of slow.

Mary: “Where did I put those swaddling clothes?”

Narrator: Jed was surprised Mary hadn’t slept in today. Joseph was saying something about a trip that takes about 100 miles donkey distance, and they need to get on the road. Joseph: “Mary, see the map? We go from Nazareth to Bethlehem, then to Jerusalem and back to Bethlehem. It’s going to be a long trip. The sun will be up soon. We need to go. Where’s that donkey?”

Narrator: Then it happened! Remember those bags, and heavy Mary? They were coming toward Jed.

Donkey: “Not the bags and Mary too. Weary is me. Weary is me.”

Wouldn’t you like to know what Jed wanted to name the baby?

Aliens Meet Christmas

Scene 1 - Space Ship

Narrator: Three aliens find themselves hovering over earth. Orb and Tock are experienced in the art of space travel, while Bob is not. ¬¬¬¬¬Bob has been studying his partners, wanting to learn and know all of their wisdom. To say it bluntly, he wants to be just like them. However, he has a way to go.

Orb: “Something strange is happening on Earth.”

Tock: “I agree. Did you see that power surge too?”

Orb: “I sure did, and it happened all over the earth.”

Bob: “What power surge?”

Orb: “Right here.”

Orb shows Bob the instrument panel.

Orb: “What could cause such commotion?”

Tock: “I don’t know. Let’s land and check it out.”

Bob: “I’m with you.”

Narrator: So the aliens, dressing as earthlings, put on black suit coats, hats and dark sunglasses, and prepared for landing. They had watched the last alien movie, Men in Black 3, and knew all important earthlings wore such garments. They were prepared, except Bob. Little did they know they were to embark on an adventure of a life time, one that would change their lives forever.
