Mary Rejoice evermore. I Thessalonians 5:16 Many years ago, my mom and I were visiting the nursing home, so we could see Grandma. We had already been there several times, and were used to the routine. I won’t speak for my mom, but for as long as we had been going to the nursing home, to visit Grandma, I had gradually become comfortable enough to reach out and spend some time with a sweet, elderly lady named “Mary.” I liked spending time with Mary. Mary was in a wheelchair, and she was hard-of-hearing. She could carry on a conversation, but you had to raise your voice to the appropriate level in order for her to hear you. And even though the wheelchair limited her mobility, it certainly didn’t limit her sense of humor. Like Marie in the previous story, Mary could also cause a person to “crack up,” even if that wasn’t her intent. Before parting ways that afternoon, I told Mary: “Jesus loves you, Mary.” After she heard what I had said, I changed the question on her and asked, “Do you love Jesus?” After hearing what I had said that time, Mary’s answer was serious and confident: “Oh, yeah, I like men!”
