Prisoners in the Bible

Daniel’s confidence in God was high even when he was thrown into the lions’ den. If we think of the lions’ den as a metaphor for times of crisis in our own lives, we can see just how important trust in God can be. When we’re in the lions’ den, something is already wrong. Having faith in the lions’ den is difficult because during the hardest times in life it can seem like God has already abandoned us. What role does God play in our life when lions are already surrounding us? What role does faith play when God has evidently not answered our prayers because we have already lost our job, we are being evicted from our house or sent to prison, or a loved one has just been diagnosed with a deadly disease? It’s easier to question God when we’re in the lions’ den than it is to trust Him. It is during threatening times that Daniel’s example is the most powerful. He didn’t stop praying when things went wrong for him—when he was taken as a prisoner of war to Babylon. We should not stop praying because of our own painful circumstances. Regular prayer leads to trust, peace, and confidence in God.
