Jesus – The Name Above All Names
There is one important fact that separates the Christian faith from all other religions. Our faith isn’t a memorial society built on the death of our fallen leader. The bedrock foundation of our faith is built on the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When Muhammad died, he stayed dead, and his remains are still buried. When Confucius died, he stayed dead. When Buddha died, that was the end of his story. However, when Jesus of Nazareth was crucified and laid in a borrowed tomb, he rose from the dead on the third day and conquered death and hell. That is what makes our religion different from all the other religions of the world.
What began as a whisper in a graveyard over 2000 years ago, now reverberates all over the world as people from all walks of life celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. He is not just another religious figure who taught valuable life lessons. He is God’s Son who took the sins of the world in His body and accepted the punishment of our transgressions. He did for us what we could never do for ourselves. That’s what we celebrate each Sunday as we worship collectively as God’s people. He not only makes the difference in this life, but in the life to come. The question you need to ask yourself this day is: “Do I know it?”
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 NIV). “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6 NIV). It is time we live for the One who died for us. It does make a difference.

About the Author
Bill Hurt is the pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Columbus, Mississippi. He also has pastored in Kentucky and Alabama. He holds degrees from Mississippi College (BS, 1983), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv, 1989), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (DMin, 1999). Bill and his wife, Tommi Jo, have been married since 1983 and have two daughters, Laura Jo and Melanie. Bill is active in the Mississippi Baptist Convention and is currently serving on both the one-hundred-member board and the executive committee. Bill’s passion is preaching, but he is also an avid runner.
