When we bring a new life into our midst, God intends we’ll be inspired to nurture the whole human being of our beloved child, so they’ll grow to reflect the goodness that flows between and among us as members of a family triangle (circle).
Since the 1970’s, many men, women and children have lacked the experience of being part of a happy family dynamic. Many people grow into adulthood with absolutely no idea about what a happy marriage or family entails. Many people have never been nurtured in a family where every member encourages and affirms the inherent dignity and goodness of each other.
What has caused the decay of human relationship and the inherent dignity that God attributes to every human being at the moment of conception?
The pursuit of materialism and the fast-paced technological innovations keep people focused on all the physical conveniences and pleasures available to us. It is no longer a matter of necessity being the mother of invention. It is the invention of something new that artificially creates a new superfluous need.
In pursuing the physical things of the world, we pay little attention to our inner longings and needs.
Perhaps, the most damaging of social influences on our modern age was the sexual revolution that began in the late 1960’s. It was believed men and women should have the freedom to experiment with our sexuality. The new birth control pill would allow men and women to express their sexuality without fear of pregnancy. Sexual freedom is a myth and yet all the heartache, regret and disillusion, suffered on the part of men and women because of this life style, seems to have become normalized. Sexual freedom is the paradox of God’s intent in the expression of human sexuality.
Science has revealed God’s plan for sexual intimacy. Science is in agreement with Catholic-Christian theology that presents masculine and feminine principles which reveal the identities, roles and purposes of our engendered being as male and female. Alone, we are incomplete but together in sexual intimacy a man and woman become as one.
Absolute equality is a myth. Equality is a human construct. God has created each of us to be unique with different strengths and needs that we might exchange with each other in or outside marriage. The unique engendered differences, between a male and female, are intended to be mutually-supportive of each other in marriage. Equal opportunity in the social arena is one thing. In marriage, we are able to bring our inequalities into balance.
Male and Female….is written with hope and optimism for a change for the better and the ultimate good of all men, women, children and the unborn. It brings the truth of our purpose on earth out in the open.
Forget about equality. Forget about sexual freedom. Women, wait for your prince charming who is ready and willing to surrender all of himself to you for his lifetime. Men, wait for the one sleeping beauty who is waiting to be fully-awakened and inspired by her life-partner in marriage. Challenge the culture and choose celibacy as the wisest and safest direction towards true love and a life of fulfilment with a true soulmate in marriage. In this era of distorted ideas about our inherent roles, identities, and purposes as men and women, it has never been as important that we seek reconciliation in marriage and families so there can be a more rational approach to the real problems the whole world suffers. We must disseminate God’s truth and extinguish the lies and myths that Satan has embedded into the hearts and minds of many people.
Building on these ideas, in Male and Female Made in God’s Image, author Frances O’Dair offers her perspective on dating, marriage, and family, which she believes reflects the experiences of most married couples before the sexual revolution of the 1960s. She encourages men and women to reflect on the wise or self-serving natures of their past dating and mating choices. If we can stop the reckless self-gratifying use of human sexuality with our children, our loving direction and understanding of God’s truth can set them free from the temptations that have been passed down to recent generations. About the Author
Frances O’Dair and her husband, George, have two sons and six grandchildren. Their successful marriage of fifty-five years serves as the inspiration for Male and Female Made in God’s Image. She is also the author of two unpublished works reflecting on her experiences as a teacher and parent. She currently lives in Cornwall, Ontario.
