Nothing had prepared the young people for the sights and sounds and smells so unfamiliar to them that assaulted their senses in wave after wave until they were almost numb and beyond shock. Stormwater mixed with raw sewage was flowing in the streets and dogs were drinking from it, and women were washing their clothes in it. Vendors were selling goat meat and other fresh meat covered with flies in the sweltering heat. Women were carrying huge baskets of fruit, baked goods and other merchandise on their heads, with little girls tied to a rope that was fastened to the mothers’ belt. Many of the local inhabitants were trying to make themselves heard above the din as they barked out phrases in broken English trying to sell their wares to the foreigners in the two vans that were feeling their way through the press of humanity.

About the Book
Siblings Jared, Joel, Emily, and Rebecca Linville plan to close out their summer with a short-term mission trip to Haiti. Strong Christians, they know they need to be in good physical and spiritual shape to prepare for a journey to a place where the enemy has such a stronghold. Nothing could have prepared them for the life-changing adventure overseas.
Everything is different in Haiti. For these American youth, the atmosphere of Haiti is much louder and dirtier. It’s not easy at first to acclimate, but to preach the message of Christ, they must toughen up and use each of their spiritual gifts. The Lord gives many gifts, including wisdom, knowledge, healing, and prophecy; we simply must learn how to use them.
The Gifts for Millennials is intended to demonstrate that the gifts of the Spirit can be used in very practical and down-to-earth ways and are available for all who receive them in childlike faith. About the Author
Robert Woods is a civil engineer with Skanska USA and has been on several short-term missions trips to Haiti, as well as to St. Thomas and Canada. His wife Marie is a Haitian national, born and raised in Les Cayes in the southern provinces. They live with their children in South Florida, where they attend Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale.
