God is in the life of every believer. We are who we are because of Him. Before we can do anything on this Christian journey, we must first believe that God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do according to the Holy Bible. He created humankind and provides for us and the world that He created. Scriptures teach that the first man God created sinned, and as a result, all persons born after Him are born in sin. And since man cannot save himself, and because God loves us so much, He sent His beloved Son Jesus down from heaven to earth on a mission to save us His people from our sins. As a result of our accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and becomes a member of the family of God.
During Jesus' mission on earth, He instituted the church, telling His disciples that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. He prepared them for His death, His resurrection, His ascension back to heaven and the role they would play in the establishment of the church. Jesus Christ had to die and be resurrected by His Father God back to heaven before the church could be established. There are two references to "the church." The first one is the universal church where there is no meeting together of the people, but by faith they all believe in their hearts that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and was resurrected on the third day. All believers in Jesus Christ are bound together in their beliefs that there is one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father. The local church is where baptized believers gather to worship and praise God for who He has been to them, who He is to right now, and who He will be in the future. The purpose of the church, the Body of Christ, is to point people to Jesus Christ, and to nurture, encourage, and provide for each member spiritually so that they can live a life of faith. God gave every believer a gift and to some He gave gifts to edify His church. No one in the church is called to be a spectator but to be a participator using his or her God-given gifts to bless others.
Our discipleship. worship, fellowship and stewardship characterizes us as being children of God.
Discipleship takes place when we pattern our lives after Jesus Christ by giving up all that we are and have to become like Him. A true disciple is loyal to Jesus Christ above everything and anyone else.
Worship is to glorify God by giving Him sincere honor, glory and praises that celebrate Him for who He is. We know Him to be our Creator, our Savior, and our Sustainer. We are His and He is ours, therefore, our worship should be directed toward Him and Him alone.
Christian fellowship begins with God in the heart of the believer. Our fellowship with God is through our prayers, praise and worship, our discipleship, and our stewardship. Not only do we as Christians fellowship with God the Father but with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and with other believers. The Christian fellowship experiences with others lead to relationships that are centered around Jesus Christ.
God is the Creator of all things, therefore everything belongs to Him.
Christian stewardship refers to the responsibility that Christians have in maintaining and using wisely what God has given to them. It is the act of taking care of something that does not belong to you but to God. God gives and provides us with gifts, and requires that we give back to Him by supporting the church, helping the poor and sharing with others in their needs. Whatever He gives us in the form of finances, time and talents, we become stewards over it and are held accountable for what we do with it.

On Sunday mornings all over the world, people get dressed to go to church. Some of them dress up, some dress down, and others come as they are. Their choice of dress is their own personal preferences, as God does not have a dress code for His worshippers. He only requires that we worship Him in spirit and in truth.

God did not make provisions and save His people just for them to become members of a church; but to become disciples of Jesus Christ. When we acknowledge our call, He equips us to do the work of kingdom building. This is where our discipleship, our worship, our fellowship, and our stewardship define us as Christians. As Christians, we have been guaranteed that we will spend eternal life with God our Father, where we will be in His presence worshiping and praising Him forever.

Zadia B. Tyson is a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and a retired elementary school teacher of thirty-seven years. She is a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, FL where she serves as Director of Christian Education and Children’s Church. She is the teacher of the Median Adult Sunday School Class and has rendered this service for the past thirty-three years. She is a member of the Missionary Society and the Women’s Ministry.
