About the Book

In 1803, President Jefferson said to James Monroe,
To France you must go:
To try and help our country grow.

To purchase New Orleans is what he would try,
But the whole Louisiana territory he was able to buy.

This is only a sample of what you will enjoy as you read United States History in Rhyme. This book takes the highlights of our history and presents them in a way that will catch a child’s attention, and adult’s also. It will peak their interest in our history by raising the who and what questions that motivate them to want to know more. For example, who is Paul Revere? And what was “the shot heard round the world?”

In 1492
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

It’s just a little rhyme, but it conveys a lot of information. And most of all, we remember it! This book contains facts from our history in rhyme that can easily be remembered.

We know that you and your children will love this book and want to read it multiple times.

About the Author

Larry Markus spent forty years trying to teach fifth and sixth graders traditional material in non-traditional ways. His outside the box methods were his way of trying to make learning more fun than it had been for him.

This book which is mostly the narrative from the musical, “U.S. History in Song and Rhyme,” that he wrote to strengthen the years history facts and entertain his students during the time after yearly achievement tests, is the crowning accomplishment of his teaching career.

Children will love the way history is presented in rhyme and they and adults will be better able to remember history facts that are easily forgotten.
