Labor Day was coming up soon. Garry decided that we needed to have a shin-dig. He and some of the kids planned a “Thanksgiving” picnic. He had me go through his personal belongings, and we made up a bag of goodies (Christmas presents) for each person in the family. With ten kids, in-laws, and twenty-four grandchildren, that was quite a feat!
He gave me his wedding ring and the first tie tack that I had ever bought him. He told me to give the ring to my next husband! On our tenth anniversary, we had reaffirmed our wedding vows and exchanged rings. He gave his anniversary ring to our first grandson.
This was a very special time, going through all his personal things and picking out gifts for each person. It was great. Everyone got something of his! Something that he selected personally for them himself! And as he said, no one would be able to squabble over his belongings after he died.

About the Book
It was November 1995 when Donna Jean Fletcher/Everitt’s minister husband, Garry, was diagnosed with cancer. After the shocking diagnosis came rounds of grueling chemotherapy and the unfortunate reality that the cancer was still growing inside him. A little over ten months later, Garry succumbed to the disease, leaving Donna to face a new challenge: her grief.
Death brings feelings that none of us understand. In a touching and honest recount of her experiences both during and after her husband passed away from cancer, Donna shares a glimpse into her intimate private moments of grief and uncertainty. While offering a window into not only her grief but also her ultimate joy as she turned everything over to God for comfort, Donna provides encouragement to others in the same situation while emphasizing that grief, although emotionally draining and overwhelmingly frustrating at times, will not last forever and that hope is always within our reach.

About the Author
Donna Jean Fletcher/Everitt is a retired minister who is comforted knowing God will help her through anything. After raising seven children, plus three step-children and becoming a widow, she eventually remarried and now lives in Leavenworth, Kansas, where she is an active volunteer in her church and community. Grief’s Story: Joy Will Come is her first book.
