The Story in the Stars

Pudding called her lambs. “Come and lie in front of me, Mousse. Come lie next to me, Tapioca. I want to tell you the story that was placed in the stars.”

“And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.’ And it was so.” Genesis 1:14,15

“This story has been in the sky from the beginning of creation. All the stars have names,” Pudding said.

Genesis 1:16 tells us, “God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” In Psalm 147:4 we see the stars have names: “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.”

“Some of the stars’ names have been forgotten,” Pudding continued. “However, some of the names have been remembered and have been passed on from generation to generation. These names and the pictures they make tell a story. Over the next months, I will show you this story.”

”David spoke of the story in the stars one thousand years before Christ in Psalm 19:1-4:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world.” And in Psalm 50:4 he speaks of them as witnesses: “He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people.”

Isaiah 40:26 references them: “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who calls forth the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.” Amos 5:8 also speaks of them: “He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night … the LORD is his name.” Paul also knew the story, for he quotes Psalm 19:4 in Romans 10:18 when he speaks of why the Israelites should have known Jesus as Messiah.

“The story begins with the star sign of a virgin called Virgo, Bethulah in Hebrew and Arabic. In her left hand is a stalk of corn with the star Spica meaning ‘seed.’ Above her left shoulder is the star Zavijaveh—Hebrew for ‘desirable’—and in her side is the star Tsemech, which translates as ‘branch.’ In her right hand is a sheaf of wheat with the star Al Muridin—Arabic meaning ‘the one sent forth.’ Can you find the stars?” Pudding asked.

We also find this story in Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and will call him Immanuel,” and in Isaiah 11:1-5: “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse, from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him … but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.” This is repeated in Jeremiah 23:5-6: “‘The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land’” (emphasis added).
