The progenitor’s purpose is to carry on what was previously begun with the intent to pass it on to a new generation.
Mama

With the aid of the midwife, she bore us
Without anesthetics—just a cold press
And the strong voice saying…
Bear them pains…
This will make a woman out of you sure!
She moaned and groaned - panted and screamed.
Yet, in her heart…. The worth was inside,
Trying to enter a world unknown,
Trying to come to a place safer than Mama’s belly
To Mama’s arms. Her heart beat intensely…
Drops of sweat ran like a river’s overflow.
The thought that at the end of “just a little while longer.”
Would comfort and strengthen her to bear even the more.
Her tears were held back by her strength
Until the cry, “I see the head—one more push”
The tears released in total surrender at the sound of the babe’s audible cry, and laughter and tears interchanged,
Knowing that she’s been blessed to bear a child.
Such a miracle, she thinks, will it happen again? She wonders!
Mama has aged,
All of her bearing and struggles
Have given her insight and wisdom, strength and beauty…
More love and sharing…
And tolerance and caring…
An unselfish jewel is she…
Never running out of love and warmth
Her ears are not too dull for listening,
Nor her eyes too dim for seeing the good that’s there,
Nor her shoulder too weak for a head to rest.
Patient and impartial to all that she bore til the end…

About the Book
By Inspiration can be compared to my journey through life. Departure began at birth on March 15, 1948 on Jack Craig’s Place in a little shack surrounded by a cotton field, located across the pass at the end of a little dusty road. I was the tenth child born to William J. and Callie Donnie Davis Robinson. Life has taken me on an expressway with many exits, detours, and points of construction. By Inspiration is a compilation that reflects a shallow view of life experiences at different intervals through expressions in creative writings and visual art. In it, a myriad of emotions of love, joy, sorrow, gratitude, disappointment, and disgust are evident. By Inspiration gives the reader and viewer a glance at my interpretation of how life experiences can influence and impact the mind’s eye’s reality. “But we know that all things work together for good to them who love God to them who are called according to his purpose” (Romans).
About the Author
Vanelder Robinson Nichols is a native Mississippian, and a product of Tunica and Coahoma counties. She started her education at Brown School, a one room school, housed in West Lake Baptist Church. Later, a vacant house across the field from the church became Brown School (Grades 1-8). Grades 4 through 9 were completed at Bonnie Blue and Lula Jr. High Schools. She furthered her education: Coahoma Agricultural High; Coahoma Jr. College; Los Angeles City College; Delta State University (Bachelor of Science in Education); Le Moyne Owen College (Bachelor of Arts); Jacksonville Theological Seminary (Master and Doctorate Degrees in Theology).
She presently resides in Memphis, TN with her husband. She is the mother of three, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of three. She retired after a 39 year tenure of teaching Elementary Education and Elementary Art. Currently, she continues to paint and is one of the Pastor Assistants at The Fellowship of Believers in Christ Church.
