Mommy, why is Tommy black while I’m white?
Think about Grandma’s garden. Grandma planted many types of flowers which have many pretty colors. Think of how the variety of flowers and the diversity of color blends together to make the garden beautiful. If all the flowers were the same, would the garden be as interesting to look at?
God planted the first garden called the Garden of Eden. He created and planted every kind of flower with many different colors for us to enjoy. God created you and Tommy much the same way He created the flowers in the garden. God made you white and He made Tommy black. The difference in people makes the world more interesting and beautiful like the variety of flowers makes Grandma’s garden more beautiful. You and Tommy each have a heart and a soul loved by God. God made all of us in His image and He loves each of us the same. God has no favorite color. God has no favorite people. God loves all the people He made equally.

About the Author
Boots Brizendine is a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and has experienced answering three generations of “why” questions. Boots Brizendine loves her Lord and wants to share her faith. She has studied her bible for many years and has taught all ages within her church. Boots Brizendine lives with her husband on a ranch in Florence Texas where they raise Registered Black Angus Cattle. Boots was a stay at home mother until her sons were in their teens.
She then went to work for the USPS retiring 15 years ago as postmaster.
