Chapter Four
God, the Old Testament, the New Testament, and Women
Remember what we learned about our hearts being deceitful and desperately wicked? That verse applies to all of us and yet we still think that we are “good”. This book may be a commentary on the truth of God, but is not a purveyor of absolute truth. What is written here is tainted by the author's inability to see the whole of God's truth. It is also tainted by the reader's inability to see the whole of God's truth. Because of this, the book is not to be read as a book of instruction or it will miss the intended mark. As you read you must remember that it is not as important to live the Christian life as it is to hear the One Who owns your life. If you hear Him you will do what is right. Humanly you are able to do what is “right” by man’s laws in the flesh and never hear the Lord calling you. You only hear Him when you are worshiping Him in spirit and in truth.
Therefore it is impossible to teach the whole truth of God and not offend people. For instance, when you teach about submission which is a real subject in God's Word applying to all, people are offended. They feel that they are as good as anyone else and do not need to have someone else ruling over them, or instructing them on what they should do and how to do it. In a way they are right. They are just as evil and sinful as everyone else, and need no one to teach them how to sin. Goodness and righteousness only come from God. We obtain these qualities after salvation and when the Holy Spirit begins to conform us to the image of Jesus.
We have looked at two different women (Eve and Rahab the Harlot) and seen how God loved them. We have seen how He created them, cared for them and directed them in their search to find Him as Lord of their lives. Actually there are more than these two women that we could follow. There are women throughout the Bible that had a significant role in God's plans. Some had very large roles, and others had smaller roles, but all were very important to the Father Who loves them. When an Almighty God takes time to tell his scribes what to write about these women, I think that He wanted us to know about them, how He cared for them, and their roles in His plans. These women are to be our guides to show us our roles in this world.
Some of the others women were Sarah (beginning in Genesis 11) and Hannah (beginning in I Samuel) who both were barren and sought a child from God. Each of these women had a stigma that affected their lives. That stigma was that they had no children. We know that their hearts longed for children as do the hearts of almost every young woman.
