The People of Seth—Elihu
Elihu’s soldiers cautiously entered yet another small clearing. He noticed more broken trees at the sides of the open space, indicating the recent presence of one of the giant animals. Smaller creatures slithered, hopped or crawled out of the way as they walked further into the opening. At the center of the open space, a bound and masked shape that seemed to be a person was tied by a rope leading up to the lowest branch of a particularly large sun tree covered with bright yellow blossoms. A few small carnivores were looking at the bound person with great interest, but they scattered and ran when the soldiers arrived. The tethered person was rather tall.
“It may be her,” a soldier said.
“It’s a trap,” whispered another.
Indeed it was a trap. The outstretched foot of one of them accidentally found the hidden trip vine. A small tree was released from the vines that had bent it nearly to the ground. Over twenty spikes of hardened gopher-wood were launched toward the entrance to the clearing.
One of his ten soldiers flung himself in front of General Elihu bau Seth. A dart of hardened wood lodged deep into the man’s shoulder; another was in his thigh, breaking his large leg bone with an audible snap. He cried out, as did others. Some were down and several were in great pain, but Elihu was safe. He sighed and looked around cautiously before stepping forward again.
His quick count revealed that two of Elihu’s own men and five others were hit. The wounded cursed bitterly as they writhed in pain. Elihu glanced at his men, touched the shoulder of the one who had protected him and walked toward the center of the small clearing.
Elihu slashed the ropes, removed the hood-covering over the person’s face and released the sobbing individual. He recognized her from a digital image he had been shown—it’s Zillah! She wondered if the hood covering had mussed her hair, but then stared at the man with large eyes and collapsed onto his chest. “The Cainites took me prisoner.” As he held her, Elihu himself became a captive, able to think only of the magnificent woman in his arms.
He gazed at her and was mesmerized by her face, the black hair with its green highlights and those brown eyes! He frowned though, as he noticed her very large feet.
“I forgive you” he muttered huskily.
“What?” asked Zillah, disoriented by all that had happened to her.
Elihu blinked and responded, “I am Elihu, your rescuer.”
“Oh my, thank you, Elihu—you are wonderful!”
They reluctantly disentangled themselves slowly from one another’s arms and moved away from the sun tree that had held her. Their reverie was interrupted by moans from the injured men.

Technology–it’s about OUR generation, isn’t it? Or is it? Could it have happened long before the stone, bronze and iron ages we think of as the dawn of modern technology? Genesis 6:11-13 is God’s view of the world at that time: “corrupt…and full of violence.” The earth was to be destroyed by an immense flood with earthquakes and volcanism under the waters that destroyed the world, its civilization and ended for a time our violent tendencies. Ron Beckham, the author of “Achaía, The Days Of Noah,” is an ordained pastor with the heart of a writer, having written or edited commentaries on more than forty books of the Bible, which may be viewed at www.FridayStudy.org.
