Jesus is our Servant King (Matthew 12:18). What an interesting combination of words. We rarely think of a king as being the servant of all, but instead we have learnt that kings are to be served. The real God is showing how different the world can be. The government of God is atypical of the ways we have got used to in the world.
We see that God had chosen Jesus to be a servant (Matthew 12:18). When we think of being chosen, we may think of being selected for a unique role or a promotion. I am not sure if we would quickly come to terms with being chosen to be a servant. For many that would feel like a demotion not a promotion.
We want to be chosen for greatness, significance, not servanthood, but that is God’s way. He models that with his own life. Jesus was chosen to be a servant to the people. No convenient transport, but a pair of sandals to get around. No seat in government or the religious assembly, but large crowds followed his every word from miles around and even from abroad (Mark 3:7-8).
People came because they could see God’s hand upon Jesus’s life. They listened to his messages of hope amid the storm of their lives, to get healed from sickness and freed from the oppression of evil spirits (Luke 6:18).
The servant King came and is coming to make everything right (Matthew 12:20). The real God is not for the few, but for the many. He is not for one ethnic group or a special segment of society, but he is the God of all the nations, clothed in humility as an ordinary teacher (Rabbi) walking the street, touching and changing lives one by one. The servant's rule is transnational and no boundaries can stop him. This is such great news to all people groups (Mathew 12:21).

About the Book
Some people believe that religion is the root of all evil. The Jesus Project challenges this claim as we reflect on the teachings of Jesus in chronological order. The book aims to show that Jesus is a different kind of King and that He rules the world through personal sacrifice and humility. Jesus is not the instigator of any war, except the spiritual war against misuse of power—no matter if that is done in the name of the church or society.
The weapon of Jesus is His words. He creates new life as He paints a picture of how it is to live in the Kingdom of God. The real God is a peacemaker. He is the one who brings people together and turns enemies into friends.
This book is meant to be studied and discussed. The reflections are written to challenge what you believe about God, the way you live, and to help you put your faith into action.

Dr. Arno Steen Andreasen is a pastor who loves to develop thought-provoking teaching that leads to Kingdom solutions. He is passionate about wrestling with Scripture alongside current social research. He believes this process can inform our decisions about the way we run our world.
Arno believes that true innovation comes from knowing the heart of God as we meet Him in Jesus and from finding ways to apply the Spirit of the Scriptures to all aspects of life.
