THE PLURALITY OF GOD
“Now acquaint yourself with Him and be at peace.” Job 22:21 (NKJV)
If we want to acquaint ourselves with God and be at peace, we need to know Him as He is revealed in Scripture. We must know Him not only in the unity of His essence and substance, but also in the plurality of His persons. God said “Let us make man in Our image (Genesis 1:26 NKJV). Let you and I not be content until we know something about that “us.”
Endeavor to know the Father. Bury your head in His neck with deep repentance. Confess that you are not worthy to be called His child. Receive the kiss of His love. Let the token of His eternal faithfulness be a ring on your finger. Sit at His table and let your heart be merry in His grace.
Also seek to know the Son of God, who is the brightness of His Father’s glory. The Son, with unspeakable condescension of grace, became man for our sakes. Know Him in singular complexity of His nature, for He is both eternal God and finite man. Follow Him as He walks the waters with the tread of deity. See Him as He sits on the well in the weariness of humanity. Do not be satisfied until you know a great deal about Jesus Christ, your Friend, your Brother, your Husband, and your all.
Do not forget the Holy Spirit. Obtain an understanding of His nature, character, attributes, and works. Look at the Spirit of God, who “hovered over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:2 NKJV) and brought order from chaos. This same Spirit now visits the chaos of your soul and creates the order of holiness. See Him as the Lord and giver of spiritual life, the Illuminator, the Instructor, the Comforter, and the Sanctifier. See Him as He descends on the head of Jesus (Matthew 3:16 NKJV) and then rests on you who are as the skirts of His garments (Psalm 133:2 NKJV).
An intelligent, scriptural, and experimental belief in the Trinity-in Unity is yours if you truly know God; and this knowledge brings peace.
