Spiritual Correspondences
Everything in this natural world has a spiritual meaning, for nothing truly natural can exist without its spiritual counterpart. Even though the natural world appears separate from the spiritual world, they are both linked together. When God created all that He did, His objective was to bring His living, spiritual realities into the natural world. He wanted to produce heaven on earth by having a living relationship with the man and woman He created. His greatest need and desire for planet earth was for mankind to reciprocate their love to Him; by being so in tune with Him in thought, love, and obedience to His Word, they would have power over everything created in the natural world and assist Him in restoring heavenly life to planet earth.
When He created the natural world, He spoke through His Word, and His Spirit materialized His thoughts through creation, flowing through it like a divine thread. His living voice permeates throughout it today and speaks to us of His reality. This living voice can speak to us when we experience the wonders, the quietness, and the beauty of nature. It is in the quiet stillness that we can best hear the voice of God which speaks.

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Day unto day uttereth speech,
and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language,
where their voice is not heard.”
In Romans, we learn that by observing the things that He made, we can discover more about the spiritual things that they represent:
“The invisible things of him from the creation of the world
are clearly seen, being understood by
the things that are made,
even his eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.”
The spiritual world is best understood by observing the natural things that God created. In this way, we can discover their spiritual counterparts that uncover corresponding meanings. These meanings help us develop a spiritual mind so that we better understand the things of God and the messages He is revealing to us. This allows us to develop a deeper communication with God in life.
Developing our spiritual mind is the key to maintaining our communication with God. This requires effort because there is a war going on between our natural mind and the spiritual mind, as we can see in the Scripture below:
“But the natural man receiveth not
the things of the Spirit of God:
for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.
But the spiritual man has insight into everything…
But, strange as it seems, we Christians actually
have within us a portion
of the very thoughts and mind of Christ.”
Maintaining a spiritual mind gives us direction, counsel, and balance in life. It keeps us whole, happy, and in a creative state of mind. It does not look at things as they appear to be, but what they can be. When we implement the truth from an elevated perspective, the energy fields in our being are revitalized by a wellspring of life flowing from within us.
Because we are made in the image and likeness of God, every part of our bodies was created to tell us something about His life within us. The Scriptures say that God is a man in human form and shape. We have all the body parts just like He does. Just as our natural body has five senses with all these parts, so does our spiritual body and our soul. Our natural body looks like the spiritual one, and the soul body controls the spiritual body. When the natural body separates from our spiritual body upon death, we will find ourselves very much alive in this spiritual body, having its own set of five spiritual senses. What we do in our natural body affects our spiritual body, which we will have forever.
At times when God chooses, the five spiritual senses are opened so that we can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch things that are not in this natural world, but are very real. Children at young ages are attuned to these senses, and God communicates His living realities to them. It is this spiritual mind that is opened to the innocent in heart and those who have a love for the truth. The closer we get to God, the more spiritual we become, and the more in tune we are with these spiritual senses. We are able to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch things that are real in the spiritual world but are veiled to the natural mind. We only use a small portion of the mind of God that has been given to us. Spiritual corresponding is a way to exercise these spiritual senses. In this way, our mind becomes elevated out of the natural world, and we become aware of these spiritual realities that are even more real.
We can find out what the parts of our body mean spiritually by understanding their natural functions. For example, our hands are what we work with, so they correspond to our works. If we have trouble with our hands, we have to look at our works. Another example is our fingers. Our fingers are used to hold onto things, so they represent the principles that we hold onto. Each finger corresponds to one of the Ten Commandments. Starting with the right hand, the thumb is commandment one. The right forefinger is commandment two, and so on. The left thumb is commandment six, ending with the small finger on the left hand being commandment ten. If anything were to happen to any one of these fingers, it would correspond to that particular commandment that we would need to work on in our life.
