As I walked this new foundation and path I was discovering it was important to be still to deal with the pain, not to run or hide from it. I found that to be a very important lesson and was learning how to do this. Something very interesting started to happen when I was running, a transformation was occurring. Running was a place for me where I could escape and be with God and let him have all of my pain. It was a place for the pain to go to be displaced just for awhile. I had to learn how to let God have all of my pain all of the time. In that running I started to learn how to make friends with my pain. I didn’t really want to be friends with my pain but knew that had to occur, because the pain was never going to go away. I realized that when running and training there were going to be days that were uncomfortable and even painful. I had to start being comfortable in the pain, as so in my life. Running really taught me how to do that. There is something beautiful that happens when the physical pain and the emotional pain collide together and become as one. It is like they create a symphony where the crescendo meets the vibrato. The time I spent with God running, helped me realize that my pain had to become apart of me. I had to learn how to accept it even when I didn’t want to, and make pain become my new best friend.

Through her organization, Bowen's Hope, her mission is to help put an end to polycystic kidney disease and bring hope to the children with kidney disease and their families.
