Day 4: God’s Word—Our Spiritual Food
How do you feel when you skip a meal? What if you didn’t eat for an entire day? You would be weak, tired, hungry, and irritable! Our spirits need food, just like our bodies. The food for our spirits is God’s Word. If we miss eating our spiritual food for a day, what do you think will happen? Our spirits will be weak, tired, and hungry. That’s why you need to read God’s Word daily. The other day, my sixteen-year-old son, Daniel, was kind of grumpy. Because it was summer, our routines were a little more relaxed, so I asked, “Have you had your quiet time today?” He thought for a minute and then replied, “No, I haven’t. Why do you ask? Am I irritable?” I responded, “Yes, a little.” He immediately sat down, read his Bible, and prayed. The rest of the day was much better for all of us.
Bible reading
“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4).
Prayer time
Praise God for his Word that gives us spiritual nourishment each day. Confess your sins and ask forgiveness. Thank him that we live in a country where we have the freedom to have Bibles and read his Word without secrecy. Pray for your needs and the needs of others.
