Leadership: Understanding Theory, Style, and Practice

The definition of Leadership is as varied as its application partly because individuals tend to use the term leadership and management interchangeably. Leadership is not management. Leadership is a term that describes how one individual influences another individual or group of individuals to achieve a goal. Respect means that workers are treated with politeness, concerns for workers’ rights and dignity. The Alizor’s respect triangle model predicts that leadership effectiveness is based on three factors: a leader’s style (also known as attributes), individual worker, and the group.

Executive's behavior that demonstrates a caring attitude towards employees and their families is essential to leadership because "sensitivity to people's needs and interests is another key ingredient in building trust" (Kouzes and Posner, 2007, p. 230).

Linking Theory To Practice.
Leadership theories are essential because they help to define the problems and provide a framework for prediction and control of leadership activities as in the leadership forensics. Forensic leadership tends to achieve similar objective but uses the 3WH (what? who? when? and how?) to define the scope of the leadership problem but goes further to explore other factors, including but not limited to analysis of the problem and synthesizing it generate a solution or to bring to light (expose) the confounding variables that contributed to the problem.
