The health care system in the United States is considered one of the best in the world. The problem is that many Americans are shut out of quality health care in this country for various reasons. Over the years, that has created health care disparities and stigmas, particularly in the African-American and other minority communities. Dr. Rahn Kennedy Bailey and the doctors of the National Medical Association have spent much of their careers fighting against these issues. They hope through these efforts that quality medical care can be accessed by everyone, making the U.S. the undisputed champion of health care worldwide.

The National Medical Association has championed efforts in eliminating health care disparities and stigma, while promoting reform since its inception. As a physician and educator, I know that information on these subjects is vital for today’s medical school students to have at their fingertips. I believe this book can help make the entire medical community more responsive to these concerns.

About the Author
Rahn Kennedy Bailey, MD, DFAPA is the 113th president of the National Medical Association, the largest organization of black doctors in the nation. He is executive director of the Lloyd C. Elam Mental Health Center and chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at historic Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
