We often liken life and the seasons we walk through to a tapestry or mosaic—something beautiful that many seasons of life’s experiences creates. Yes, these seasons will always bring change to our lives. There will be ups and downs, twists and turns, highs and lows. Some seasonal changes are neither good nor bad; they are just different and unexpected, and we are creatures of habit. We love our routines! We get used to things a certain way and find ourselves very uncomfortable and often disoriented with change. There will be change though, and if we want the new, fresh things the Lord has for us, we need to embrace the seasons and learn how to flow with these changes.
How we learn and grow through change will either enlarge us, deepen our character and faith, and mature us, making the tapestry of our lives even more beautiful and rich with color and hue. Or these very same changes can cause us to be broken, hard, and bitter. In that condition, life becomes nothing more than a dull existence, empty, and without purpose. That person’s tapestry becomes dark and twisted, not something lovely and joyous to look upon and be blessed by.
If Christ is the Lord of our lives, He is indeed the Lord of the seasons as well. The Bible refers to the sons of Issachar, who had an understanding of the times (1 Chronicles 12:32). This wisdom, through understanding the times and seasons, aided them in knowing the best way forward for Israel. There may always be things in our lives that are a mystery and hidden from us—things that only the Lord knows and understands about the time and season we are in. But just as the sons of Issachar sought the Lord for an understanding of the times, this encourages us to seek understanding also, so that we too can walk in wisdom as we move forward through the seasons of life.

Carolyn Vargas is an anointed psalmist and recording artist with a heart of compassion. Through her ministry and music she has inspired others to trust in the Lord and lean on Him through every season of life.
