Tonight the small town was alive with the sound of excited children as they walked towards the fair. This was the first time they had been able to have a town fair since the flood two years ago. Now fully recovered, Harrison was very much on its way back to the top. The smell of cotton candy and popcorn filled the air. The lights of the fair shown bright up in the sky and could probably be seen for miles. This was a huge celebration for all. Even the folks living along Main Street had their homes decorated with American flags and their porch lights on. Some of the older folks sat on their big porches waving to those who passed by. “Good evening” they would yell out. Why, even Mrs. Thomas was outside handing out her homemade caramel candies to those walking by. What a terrific night to be in Harrison.

About the Author
Jamie Ferris grew up as a “P.K.” (preacher’s kid) and has had the pleasure of living in several different locations throughout the Eastern United States. Jamie currently resides in Virginia with her husband and their two dogs. She has a full-time career but enjoys writing, outdoor activities, music, and traveling.
