In Search of Truth

There is a surge of fake news overtaking media outlets in the 21st century. Fake news is the intentional misrepresentation, exaggeration or distortion of the facts in the hopes of swaying viewpoints and confusing its audience.
Fake news stands in stark contrast to the unbiased objective truth. Integrity and truth become secondary to the desire to sensationalize and sway opinions. The belief the “end justifies the means” places the interests of the few, whatever their motivation, as more important than the truth. To some, the moral obligation to report truth versus fiction is no longer straightforward or clear.
The question as to what is truth has been discussed for centuries by philosophers and various religions. Is truth divine and absolute? Does truth change relative to the beliefs and customs of various cultures evolving over time? There is a plethora of different answers and viewpoints offered on this topic. It is easy to see why people are confused as we seek to find truth around us, particularly in our politicians, government, and core beliefs. So, who should we trust to guide us in this important quest?
There is only one being who knows man inside out, discerns the plans of leaders and completely understands all that has been created. That being is God. So, it makes sense that we look to the book which teaches us about God, the Bible, to find truth. The Bible teaches that truth is absolute and does not change with time or culture. One of the defining characteristics of God is truth. God never lies to us. He does not distort the facts or seek to manipulate us. In love, he always tells us the absolute truth. Further, the precepts and commands of God teach us how to become agents of truth ourselves and to discern truth and deception in others.
