All of my experiences up to this point have shown me that if I don’t give up the pen and let God write the story of my life, just glancing in the mirror is overwhelming.
I’m a perfectionist, so I want every detail to be flawless, every line spoken to be impeccable.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was trying to be God’s poster child. In every area of my life, I didn’t want to let anyone down. I thought my job was to get the envy of my friends and family so that they often thought to themselves, “Wow, her life is so wonderful. Nothing bad ever happens to her…I want to know her God so my life can be perfect too.”
I was especially determined to win God and the world’s equivalent of an Academy Award for Best Romantic Comedy. This ambition was the catalyst for many awkward relationships, extreme disenchantment, hours spent learning how to play guitar, and preoccupation with past mistakes.
Eventually, God allowed all of this anxiety and obsessing about perfection to crush me. I’m sure, in hopes that I would stop trying so hard and start living a life of joy with Him as writer, producer, director, and leading Man.

About the Book
My name is Katie, and I’m twenty-two years old … and single. Some people might say, “What’s the big deal? You’re only twenty-two.” I wish I could confidently reply, “It’s not a big deal. I’m completely content and loving the single life.” But I can’t. This past year, ten of my friends got married. It was awesome to see them with the person God had so clearly planned for them, but it was also hard not to envy their fairytale love stories. Did God forget about me? 22 & Single is simply a collection of journal entries as well as reflective commentary throughout my quest to live a God-honoring life in a time of discontentment.
