In the Shadow of Midnight

“Who are you? What on earth do you think are you doing here?” a definitely exasperated masculine voice screamed out, “Don’t you realize you are trespassing on the Andrews property? Don’t you realize this is now my property?”

The harsh voice shocked Lana abruptly from her dream like state of mind and she stepped the wrong way, she lost her balance, and fell dangerously backwards.

“Oh heaven help me!” she cried out in fear, but found herself caught abruptly by two strong masculine hands.

His hands had caught her by the shoulders with a strength that absolutely frightened her into silence. Lana was turned around with rough, yet apparent ease to face him. Lana was forced to look up into two deep green eyes which warned her of an incredibly volatile temper.

All Lana could do was to hang there in his grasp, pray for protection, and stare up at his face. His hands tightened upon her shoulders like invisible chains hang her captive to his mocking gaze upon her features.

His rugged, square jaw, slightly busy eyebrows, dark brown hair which was immaculately combed back off his forehead, and his towering height frightened her. Lana knew this large, husky man was at least two feet taller than she was.

Lana could not withhold a gasp, for she suddenly recognized this man. She had heard the chosen ticket stub called and seen him go on stage at the last concert her boss, the great Midnight had performed.

The man pulled her tighter into his strong arms and crushed her against his massive chest, forcing her to look directly up into his handsome face. She felt the entire situation was beyond her control. She could feel the quiver of anger within his gigantic arms.

“Not bad, not bad at all, my tall unusual maid.” he mused, “for a dirty mess that is!”
