Have you heard the saying, “New Year, New You”? Usually about this time of the year the TV commercials and magazines begin targeting women and their weight. Marketing ploys hone in on those holiday pounds we just put on and prey on our vulnerability of the upcoming bathing suit season. One fine January morning while you happily remove your Christmas decorations, you hear that phrase on the television in the background, “It’s a New Year, why not a New You?” Your light hearted mood is promptly replaced with a slight frown as you remove the wreath from the front door. Suddenly, guilty images of yourself flash through your mind and begin to horrify you....all that midnight tiptoeing into the kitchen for a snatch of that delicious turkey and running your finger through the cheesecake when no one was looking! As you cringe in despair your eyes land on that tread mill you got for Christmas last year and you begin making excuses for why it is covered in laundry, craft boxes and mail. By the time you finish shoving the boxes and tree into the attic, you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and the next thing you know, you are digging in your purse for your cell phone and dialing up your best friend to see if she wants to join Weight Watchers with you. All because of some phrase that made you start thinking about a “New You." A phrase probably written by some cheeto breath, fat guy with his own set of problems.
So, my fellow weight crazed, female friend, let’s take a reality check. Before we head out on this trip, we need to look at the map and find out where we are and where we are going. I know, I know, we really could use a new haircut and a new dress size. Shoot, truth be told, I have a box of L’Oréal #10 on my dresser, and my arm flab wiggles when I wave, but let’s not worry about those problems this morning. It is a new year for you, but not everything has to change about us! Let’s make sure our map isn’t upside down so that we have a correct perspective of where we really are.
1Jo 5:14 ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
1Jo 5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him
Did you get that? Isn't our God wonderful? He hears us and desires to help us become the best we can be. If you had not opened His Word, you may have just missed a great promise just for you. As we make this journey to knowing God, we must open His mouth for Him to speak.

Join the true journey of a mother-daughter team who searched God’s Word daily and then applied those teachings to everyday life, sharing the words of a righteous and holy God. Their experiences and journey took them all the way from the jungles of the dangerous Rio Negro to the city of Lages, Brazil, and back up to the horse farms of Central Florida. Each story is filled with adventure and a challenge to get to know our wonderful God!

Sheri and her husband Mark have been married for 23 years and have been blessed with four children. They have served in missions for over 20 years. With the Lord’s help, they have planted two churches in the Amazon and one church in the Catarina Mountains of Southern Brazil. No matter where she is geographically, Sheri’s passion has always been to teach others to know God and His Word. Whether she is sitting on a floor of a hut in the jungle, standing behind a pulpit at a ladies conference or writing a blog post on the computer, her topic will never stray far from what is most important in this life: having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Sharon Loyd’s love for the Word of God began in 1959 when she received Christ as her Savior. God became very personal to her once she journeyed through His Word. Her aspiration is for every Christian to really KNOW God and to walk hand in hand with Him. She and her husband, Terry, have been married since 1964. Sharon delights in her ministry as one of the Principals of Ocala Christian Academy.
