*I really hesitated whether or not to share this story but decided that there are plenty of mothers who have experienced some pretty embarrassing toddler moments and who knows maybe I just might encourage one mom!
I was a first time mom of a two-year-old son when I did something that I could never have imagined that I would stoop to!
I clearly remember wanting to get out of the house as I had been busy attempting to toilet train my first born, in hopes of having him trained before we brought his sister home in a few short months.
We had tried everything. I had even foolishly bought a book that said it could be done in one day! In an effort to help, his grandmother had mailed special "big boy" pants with his favorite characters on them in hopes he would want to discard the diapers. I was ready to take stock in the M&M company as we were going through so many of them! He'd sit on the toilet and eat them but he wouldn't do anything else!
His birthday was imminent so I decided to take a trip out to the toy store that was close to home to get some ideas of what he might be interested in and also to wile away some time. I had read that short little outings were a good testing ground.
We had gone through several aisles and everything was going smoothly, no pun intended, until I smelled something that wasn't a usual toy store smell. It was then that I realized that my toddler had made the decision to have a bowel movement right in the middle of the aisle! To make it easier to understand, it was fairly solid so it had rolled out of his "big boy" pants and landed on the floor!
Thankfully, there were several aisles and I was on one that was empty for the moment. I was horrified! I didn't know what to do. I didn't have anything to clean it up with and I was way too young and embarrassed to go to the clerk and admit what happened, or so I thought, so I did what any respectable, responsible 26-year-old mom of a toddler would do. I panicked! I picked up that boy so fast he didn't know what had happened, walked towards that door and even had the nerve to thank the clerk for her help, plopped him into his car seat in record time and drove away in my getaway car!
Lord, we worry way too much about what others think. Forgive me for leaving that mess for some unsuspecting employee to discover today. Who knows I may have met a new friend had I been honest and up front with what had transpired and we could have maybe even had a good laugh together. Forgive me for not trusting you and just running out instead of dealing with my responsibility.

About the Book
The author’s book began thirty-eight years ago before blogging was even known as a form of communication. As her role changed from newspaper columnist to a full-time stay-at-home mom, she continued journaling her parenting experiences well into her children’s young adult lives. Starting out on a mechanical Corona typewriter and moving into the computer age, the author writes with humor and refreshing candor about the joys and challenges of parenting four children and how she and they survived! Her writings reflect how she sees God at work in her life through his Word and through real-life situations that bring her to a place of daily dependence on God, the great I Am.
About the Author
The author has an AA degree in Journalism from Ball State University. She worked on the city desk at the Daily Bulletin in Anderson, Indiana from 1974-1977 as a headline writer, copy editor and after a move to Florida, worked for the Hollywood Sun-Tattler where she was the editor of the religion page and had her own column, “Here At Home,” which she gave up in 1979 to “Be at Home” to raise a daughter and three sons.
