My Journey through Breast Cancer

I want to share that over the past week, I have talked with or come in contact with a number of people who have told me that they continue to pray for me. Just hearing those words, and knowing in my heart that they are true, means the world to me. It has been a long journey over the past few months. At times, inside I wondered if I was going to make it to the end, but knowing that there were so many people pulling for me, and praying for me, gave me the strength to continue on.
I also realize that when you hear from someone who is going through this type of a challenge, it is more comforting when they talk in positive terms, and with a sense of humor. So, I have embraced that philosophy, and tried to live my life in that manner through my cancer fight. Thank you for being so strong and encouraging through these many months. I know I still have a ways to go, but I look forward to the next few months with a knowledge that God is with me, and that you, too, are all walking with me. That gives me the courage to battle on until I complete my journey.
To those people who have been recently diagnosed with cancer, or who have just undergone surgery, and are looking at starting chemotherapy or radiation, remember to stay strong, positive, and focus on looking to the future. There are so many people who are praying for you. Along with God's loving embrace, they will help carry you through what lies ahead.
Finally, a friend sent a wonderful email yesterday, which included the following line: "Life is important like people we know who are special...and so we keep them close." And it ended with the line, "Live today because tomorrow is not promised." The email also talked about how important it is to say, "I love you" while you have the chance. So to my family, friends, and all who have been by my side, just know how much I love you and thank you for being with me through my life, and most especially through this cancer battle. I will never forget your compassion, prayers, and love!

About the Book
People Cynthia encountered on her breast cancer journey profoundly changed her perspective on life. They were varied ages and came from different circumstances, but the common thread they had was the fear when hearing the word “cancer.” Often she was a reluctant participant during her walk, knowing she had no choice if she intended to win her battle. She encouraged others with her smile, positive attitude, words, and actions.
Cynthia understands that within each of us is a fighting spirit, and hopefully, a recognition that we are not in total control of our lives; God is, and he will determine our passage from this world. Until then, we need to accept the difficulties that we encounter in our lives with dignity, grace, determination, and knowing that God is constantly by our side.
With the incredible support and prayers of an army of compassionate people, and God’s grace and blessings, Cynthia is a breast cancer survivor today!
About the Author
On April 12, 2011, at age fifty-three, Cynthia J. Eggl was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. With a focus on the future, grit, countless prayers, and God’s grace, she completed her journey through breast cancer treatments. She has poured out the details in a journal, sharing it with others so they know if faced with a similar circumstance, they too can be victorious in their battle!
Cynthia lives in Fargo, North Dakota, and has worked for nonprofit organizations most of her adult life. She is a board member for a charitable fund that raises and grants money back to her hometown of Cando, North Dakota. Cynthia was born into a musical family, is a vocalist, and has mentored students as their vocal instructor. Most importantly, she loves God for the boundless blessings he has bestowed upon her and those she loves.
