Many excellent and informative books have been written on addiction. These books have provided information about the nature of the disease, characteristics of the addictive life-style, and ways to offer recovery to the addict. There have also been helpful books written on the dynamics of family life when family members have an individual who has an addiction. However, few books have been written to help families as they struggle with the faith questions and issues that arise when addiction is a part of the family. This book will help families deal with these faith questions and issues such as where is God, how do I pray, and is there hope?

This book is written for families that are dealing with the addiction of a family member. It is intended to address the faith issues that these families are struggling with as they also deal with the family dynamics associated with addiction.

Addition is a family disease. It affects all members of the family and not just the addict. For the Christian family, addiction will test the faith of each family member. In a straightforward, yet pastoral manner, Rita Hays seeks to address the issues families face when addiction is a part of family life. She also presents hope and guidance to families as they wrestle with the difficult faith challenges addiction brings. Rita Hays writes not only as a pastor, but also as a mother who had dealt with addiction in her family for several years. She has a clear understanding of the effects of addiction on the family. She shares openly and honestly from the viewpoint of a pastor who has talked with Christians in her congregations who are dealing with addiction in the family, but also as a family member herself. She also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Family Ministry and is especially sensitive to the way in which addiction affects the children in the family.

Rev. Rita Hays lives in Nashville, Tennessee and serves as the Associate Pastor at Connell Memorial United Methodist Church in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Dr. Hays is the author of two books, published by Discipleship Resources: The Children's Minister and The Most Important Space in the Church, The Nursery. She earned a BA from Mercer University, an MRE from Southern Baptist Seminary, and a D.Min. from Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has also taught Christian education classes at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. Hays has ministered in the area of Christian Education for over 25 years, especially in the area of Children and Family Ministry.
