A normal, healthy mind has extreme difficulty absorbing just how wicked wickedness really is. We want to disbelieve that certain horrific things could possibly be done by one human being against another… The Restorative Minister’s natural response to the stories we sometimes hear from survivors of torture is to deny them as true and pass the testimonies off as emanating from wild fantasies or psychoses… Sometimes it is very difficult to hold back the urge to shut the person down with, “Okay, that’s enough of that! Let’s get back to reality now.” This dispassionate response, however, can rob a real victim of his or her last ray of hope, and that may prove life threatening for the victim… to deny a person’s truth is to align with his or her tormentor(s). A victim’s primitive fears that you, too, will be just another abuser need to be dissolved… Remember this: those who have been severely abused struggle desperately with all their energy in order to become able to declare the truth… You are likely to be tested by a sifted person many times… There will be times when you must be prepared to “wait on your ministry.” … The Cross is the bridge that you can traffic to bring brokenness to the Lord and healing and deliverance back to the person in need. What was done by Jesus needs to be actively received and not simply taught as a story that has no present-day impact. He opened the way for our full salvation, cleansing, healing, and deliverance from all evil.
“Doctor Barbara” lives in Connecticut but travels and teaches where doors open to her. For most of her adult life, she has served the Lord Jesus through ministry to His people, many of whom have suffered great betrayals and become broken in heart and mind.
