One time, when our family was going through a particularly challenging season, a friend of mine gave me a devotional book that I started to read each morning. My favorite page was the devotional for September 23 titled “When Trials Come”. The Bible verse was from Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fi re you shall not be burned, and the fl ame shall not consume you.” As children of God, each of us will experience times of trouble, trials and testing (it’s not a matter of “if” but “when”). The good news is God will be with us, and God will protect us during those times. This is where we put our hope as Christian parents.

About the Author
Jean Schumm mother of five children, and President and Founder of Operation: PARENT, learned the hard way that when it comes to parenting, ignorance is not bliss. After surviving some serious struggles with her first two children, Jean felt called to create a simple "handout" that would give parents (in her children’s public high school) a “heads up” on the latest trends in teen culture. God had bigger plans. What has since developed is a national nonprofit organization now serving parents, schools and churches across the country. Jean believes God is using Operation: PARENT to shed light on today's toughest parenting issues and this Parent Handbook is sparking life-saving conversations between parents and their children.
