WestBow Press Awards Publishing Package to Author at 2011 Orange County Christian Writers Conference California

Author to Finally Publish Novel he Started Writing in 1994

Bloomington, Ind. (May 09, 2011) – WestBow Press, the self-publishing division of Thomas Nelson, has awarded Larry Forcey of Tustin, California, a free Bookstore Advantage publishing package at the recently held 2011 Orange County Christian Writers Conference. Forcey will use the package to publish his novel, The Crèche, a project he began working on in 1994. He’s submitted The Crèche to various publishers for consideration over the years without success.

“As a child, I had two dreams: one was to be a Major League baseball player, the other to be a writer. Long ago, the baseball dream ended, but the opportunity to pursue my dream of writing has now been granted to me. I am extremely grateful to WestBow for this,” Forcey said.

According to Forcey, The Crèche is a coming-of-age novel, centered on the life of the youngest child in a family struggling to emerge from tragedy. The story begins with two chapters of historical fiction, and the majority of the narration unfolds during the 1970s. With elements of fantasy, childhood adventure, family secrets, and characters wrestling with philosophical questions, it offers the reader a glimpse of God’s desire to know us, the efforts to which He has gone to restore our relationship with Him.

Forcey was awarded the package after being chosen by the contest’s judge, Kathi Macias. Macias has published more than two dozen books—through both self-publishing and traditional publishing—including several in the inspirational and Christian genre. She also serves on the Author Solutions, Inc. Author Advisory Council.

This marks the second year that WestBow Press provided the prizes and sponsorship support for the OCCWC writing contest. A total of 27 entries were entered for consideration.

“WestBow’s continued support of the Orange County Christian Writers Conference is instrumental in our attracting such highly talented writers to our program,” said conference director John DeSimone. “WestBow’s commitment to helping new and important voices find their place in the marketplace of ideas is on the cutting edge of publishing history, and my hat’s off to WestBow Press and their vision of a new publishing paradigm. Working together, I believe we can reach new authors as never before.”
